Social media widget-maker mEgo has picked up $2.5 million in a second round of funding from private investors. The LA-based startup develops widgets that let social network members integrate avatars, photos and other media into their profiles, and has raised a total of $5.5 million since its inception in 2005. mEgo currently runs on Facebook, MySpace, Hi5 and others, and says it cracked the one million registered user mark

mEgo, a startup that lets you create a portable Flash-based avatar that includes aggregated content from your social network profiles, has closed a $2.5 million funding round. The site has also announced that it has reached its 1 millionth registered user since launching at 2007's TechCrunch40 conference, with a 20% growth rate month over month.

If the 3D-ish avatar or personal icon of Second Life turns you off for being to juvenile, your best bet for creating your own interactive profile might be mEgo's interactive portable profile which you can use in your various social networking profiles. But why would you create an interactive profile anyways? We couldn't really think of a better reason than to make your social networking activities more fun.
